Leaps and Bounds

Better
is a relative term
used by politicians and doctors
on budgets and patients
that aren't looking well
no hope of survival
but not as dismal as before
but still broke and dying

Better is something not used to describe people
and there problems
there is no sliding scale
saying I am better to me
means I'm not dying
and to others means I'm taking care of myself
which I am not
I'm just being more careful with the problem

Saying you're seeing leaps and bounds of progress makes me a skeptic
we're both sick
we acknowledge that
but it seems that we can only see the good in each other
and the bad in ourselves
